Young ProfessionalsNetworkFor more than 100 years, the mortgage interest deduction (MID) has played an important part in economic stability by helping middle class Americans afford homes and related goods and services. Changes to the MID could hurt economic growth by further devaluing the housing market - one of our key economic drivers. Even modest changes like eliminating the deduction for second homes only, would decrease the value of all homes, particularly in states like Rhode Island with a significant base of vacation homes. We must oppose changes to the mortgage interest deduction. It’s definitely not the right answer and it’s certainly not the right time.
